RE/MAX Challenge Series, NASCAR Touring-Rockford
After getting a taste of high banked action, Re/Max Challenge Series drivers ready for action.
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (April 21, 2002)--For RE/MAX Challenge Series, NASCAR Touring competitors, practice and qualifying, April 6 at the Rockford (Ill) Speedway, was just an appetizer to the main entrée. But when rain washed out the Spring Classic Insight Digital 250 season opener on April 7, teams on the Midwest based late model touring series were forced to wait three weeks to get a taste of real racing action.
"I'm certainly ready to go racing," said Brian Hoppe. "We were supposed to start the RE/MAX series a couple weeks ago and then we were supposed to race on Sunday at a weekly track, but it seems like all it does in the Midwest is rain and snow."
The 26-car field is set for the Insight Digital 250, Sunday afternoon, April 28 at the .29167-mile Rockford Speedway oval. Hoppe is slated to start from the pole with rookie Todd Hansen along side. Eddie Hoffman, the winner the last time the RE/MAX Challenge Series visited the speedway and Bud Pole fast qualifier Tim Schendel will go from row two. Seven-time, and defending series champion, Steve Carlson starts from the 10th spot. The green flag is scheduled to fly over the field at 2:00 p.m. (CT).
"Starting on the front row is where you want to start at Rockford," commented Hoppe. "I know it's the best starting spot I've ever had there. It would be nice to jump in the lead at the green and set the pace."
The series opener at Rockford Speedway will kick off the 28th consecutive season of action for the RE/MAX Challenge Series. From there the series will travel to Gateway International Raceway in suburban St. Louis, May 4-5 for what will be the 400th event in the storied history of the series.
The RE/MAX Challenge Series is one of eight NASCAR Touring Series that blanket the United States. NASCAR Touring Series are extremely popular with fans and competitors. They can provide a competitor with an entire career, or they can provide valuable experience to competitors moving through the NASCAR ranks. Corporate sponsors make significant contributions to NASCAR Touring Series point funds. These sponsors include Anheuser-Busch, Featherlite, Goody's Headache Powders, Hills Bros Coffee, Raybestos Brakes, RE/MAX International, Inc., and RJ Reynolds brand, Winston.
