NE standings 2001-05-30

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 30, 2001) - Vern Bliss of Arcade, N.Y., currently leads the Competition Performance Index (CPI) in the Northeast Region of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series. Bliss, who competes in the Late Model Pro Stock division at Holland (N.Y.) International Speedway has collected four victories and four top five finishes in four starts on the high-banked .375-mile speedway.

Duane Howard of Oley, Pa., is currently second in the regional standings. Howard competes in the dirt Modified division at Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville, Pa., and has captured three victories in five starts. Howard has four top-five finishes to begin the 2001 season. T.J. Potrzebowski of Elmira, N.Y., is third in the region. Potrzebowski, who competes in the Modified division at Spencer Speedway in Williamson, N.Y., collected the victory laurels in the opening night of racing at the .500-mile speedway.

Barry Awtey of Jennerstown, Pa., Jennerstown (Pa.) Speedway; J.R. Kent of Horseheads, N.Y., Chemung (N.Y.) Speedrome; Todd Patnode of West Swanzey, N.H., Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H.; Bob Arsenberger of Mill Run, Pa., Motordrome Speedway in Smithton, Pa.; Phil Rozum of Cleveland, Ohio, Lorain County Speedway in Amherst, Ohio, and Joe Hartmann of Calverton, N.Y., Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway round out the top nine in the first tier of the Competition Performance Index (CPI) standings in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Northeast Region for the week of May 28.

The regional champions will be decided following the conclusion of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series season on September 16. The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series national championship will then be determined by a ranking of the regional champions using the Competition Performance Index (CPI).  The top-9 drivers as rated by the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series CPI in the Northeast Region for the week of May 28 follow.
