Northeast Region champion, Vern Bliss

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 26, 2001) - Vern Bliss of Arcade, N.Y., collected his first ever Northeast Region championship in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series. Bliss, who competes in the Late Model Pro Stock division at Holland (N.Y.) International Speedway, visited victory lane on 10 occasions this season and will collect over $42,000 in posted awards. Bliss had collected 17 top-five and 19 top-ten finishes in 19 starts at the high-banked .375-mile oval this season.

J.R. Kent of Horseheads, N.Y., finished second in the region with a late season surge to the top. Kent, who competes in the Modified division at Chemung (N.Y.) Speedrome, collected nine victories, 15 top-five and 18 top-ten finishes this season. Kent will take home $21,350 from the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series point fund.

Keith Hoffman of Whitehall, Pa., finished third in the regional standings. Hoffman, who competes in the dirt Modified division at Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville, Pa., has earned three victories this season. Hoffman has 14 top-five and 16 top-ten finishes in 17 starts at the .375-mile dirt oval.

Mark Cottone of McKeesport, Pa., Motordrome Speedway in Smithton, Pa.; Todd Patnode of West Swazney, N.H., Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H.; Neil Brown of Acme, Pa., Jennerstown (Pa.) Speedway; Rick Groetsch of North Ridgeville, Ohio, Lorain County Speedway in South Amherst, Ohio; John Fortin of Holtsville, N.Y., Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway and Buck Catalano of Ontario, N.Y., Spencer Speedway in Williamson, N.Y., round out the top nine in the first tier of the Competition Performance Index (CPI) standings in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Northeast Region.

Regional champions in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series are determined by the Competition Performance Index (CPI). NASCAR Weekly Racing Series champions will be honored at the Peabody Hotel and Resort at the national champions banquet on Friday, November 16.
