Daytona Beach, FL (April 21, 2001) The Goody's Dash Series, NASCAR Touring returns to action next Saturday, April 28, 2001 at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, North Carolina. Race day will mark eleven weeks since the checkered flag fell at Daytona.
Though it seems like an eternity since the series was in competition, the break has offered much needed time for the teams to prepare for a grueling schedule. The 2001 season will provide an exciting mixture of super speedways and short tracks. Not since 1982 has the series visited so many super speedways in the same year. Last season was the most competitive in terms of different winners with eleven different drivers making the trip to victory lane.
The 2001 Series packs a punch with a lineup of well seasoned veterans and six rookie of the year contenders. Returning as defending champion of last year's OCS event is Ned Combs (Newton, NC). Who at age 55 captured his second career victory after enduring a twenty-one season drought. Combs finished fourteenth at Daytona this year revealing that one more year has only made him tougher and wiser. Look for him to come prepared to show the boys what it is all about. Daytona 200 winner, Justin Hobgood (Winnsboro, SC) qualified on the pole and led 35 laps in last year's event and is sure to return to action carrying plenty of momentum. Joey Miller (Wilmington, NC) finished third last year, is one of several young drivers who have been knocking at the door for their first career win.
Qualifying starts at 4:15pm with the green flag for this year's COCA-COLA "150" scheduled to wave at 7:30pm. Orange County Speedway is a .375 mile high-banked oval and is located in Rougemont, NC a few miles north of Durham.
The Goody's Dash Series is one of nine NASCAR Touring Series that blanket the United States. NASCAR Touring brings special events to many NASCAR Weekly Racing Series tracks and some NASCAR superspeedways and road courses. NASCAR Touring Series can provide a competitor with an entire career, or they can provide valuable experience to competitors moving through the NASCAR ranks. Corporate sponsors make significant contributions to NASCAR Touring Series point funds. The sponsors include Anheuser-Busch, Featherlite Trailers, Gatorade, Goody's Headache Powders, O'Reilly Auto Parts, Raybestos Brakes, RE/MAX International, Inc., and R.J. Reynolds brand Winston.
