NASCAR GRAND NATIONAL DIVISION, WEST SERIES
POST-RACE NOTES - PIKES PEAK
NAPA AUTO PARTS 150 Presented by NAPA Belts & Hose
Big day for NAPA . Steve Portenga drove the No. 16 NAPA Auto Parts/NAPA Belts & Hose Chevrolet to victory in the NAPA Auto Parts 150 presented by NAPA Belts & Hose at Pikes Peak International Raceway on Sunday, Aug. 21. It marked his second win of the season and the sixth of his career.
First Bud Pole for Myers . Series rookie Andrew Myers (No. 44 Toyota of Escondido Chevrolet) won his first career Bud Pole Award at PPIR, with a lap of 131.128 mph around the one-mile, D-shaped oval.
New combination out front . Although it was only his fourth race in the series, rookie Spencer Clark (No. 23 Allegiant Air/Rich's Motorsports Ford) dominated much of the action at Pikes Peak in the entry by Clay Andrews, who was making his series debut as a car owner. Clark, who led 73 of the 150 laps, was sidelined by electrical trouble while leading on lap 132.
Rebound . Defending series champion Mike Duncan (No. 9 Lucas Oil/Ron's Rear Ends Chevrolet) fell back early in the race, going a lap down to the leaders. He rebounded, however, after receiving the beneficiary award during the first caution and charged to a fourth-place finish.
Featherlite Most Improved . Tim Woods III (No. 54 Chino Hills Ford Ford) won the Featherlite Most Improved Driver Award at PPIR. After limping to a 15th-place finish at Stockton with mechanical trouble, he finished sixth in Colorado. Featherlite presents the award at each event to the driver who improves the most finishing positions from the previous event.
POWERade Power Move . Brett Thompson (No. 61 Rich Thompson Trucking Chevrolet) charged from 15th on the grid to finish fifth at Pikes Peak and win the POWERade Power Move of the Race Award. At each Grand National Division event, POWERade presents the award to the driver who advances the most positions.
