BECHTELSVILLE, PA APRIL 28, 2000 . . . Popular on-air radio personality Bobby Gunther Walsh, heard on WAEB-AM radio each weekday morning, has challenged several radio personalities and a politician to a race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night, May 6, 7:30 p.m. In addition there will be a full card of NASCAR Modifieds and Late Model stock car racing. As part of WAEB-AM Celebrity Challenge Night at the popular NASCAR sanction clay track racing facility, Walsh will race against nationally recognized meteorologist, Accuweather's Dr. Joe Sobel, WAEB traffic reporter Barry Dawson, Northampton, PA County Councilman Ron Angle plus other notables. The celebrity racers will be in 4-cylinder Pure Stocks. And fans will share in the fun as close to 100 prizes will be given away. There will also be opportunities for fans to win a Pocono Getaway, free golf at some fine local courses and more. Fans that are able to pick the winner in the celebrity race will be able take part in a drawing for the valuable prizes. In addition to the WAEB-AM Celebrity Challenge Race, on Saturday, May 6, 7:30 p.m., there will be a full evening of NASCAR Modified and Exide Shortrack Late Model stock car racing. At least 13 big events of stock car racing kicking off the month of May. "We are a big booster of racing at Grandview Speedway at WAEB. As most know I am a regular at Grandview in the NASCAR Modifieds. I wanted to be able to do something special to bring more attention to the great racing at the Berks County oval. I have some of my friends, Accuweather meteorologist Dr. Joe Sobel, a regular on my show, will be there. He is seen on CNBC and other national shows. He is really anxious to do this. And Barry Dawson, our traffic reporter will be there. And Ron Angle, a noted Northampton County councilman has agreed to participate. They are all part of the WAEB-AM radio team. And there will be others," said Walsh. "We will be talking about this on air and building up interest. We want to get some new fans out there to see what the excitement of short track auto racing is all about. We are all looking forward to the racing." During the month of May, Grandview Speedway will be offering Saturday night, 7:30 p.m. shows that feature the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modifieds along with the Exide Shortrack Late Models. At least 13 big events of stock car racing every Saturday night. And on Tuesday, May 23, 7:30 p.m. the Philadelphia Daily News/NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Series kicks off with four different types of racing competition in one program. The ARDC midgets, KARS sprints, 410 sprints and NASCAR Modifieds will be featured in a features only program. This was a very popular event last season. Saturday night racing events continue to attract many of the top talents in area dirt track modified and late model stock car racing. Admission for adults is just $10.00, youngsters 6 thru 11 pay $3.00 and kids under 6 are admitted free with a paying adult.
