HOMETOWN HERO: JEFF FULTZ SCORES FOURTH WIN AT KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY

SPARTA, Ky. (June 17, 2005) -- Defending NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southeast Series champion Jeff Fultz absolutely loves being able to race at Kentucky Speedway. The Cincinnati, Ohio showed why he is so fond of the track on Friday night thanks to his victory in the Insight Communications 150.

It marked the fourth victory at Kentucky for Fultz who grew up about 30 miles away from the 1.5-mile oval.

"It's always a pleasure to come back to Kentucky Speedway. This place is so close to home that my family and friends can drive down and watch myself race," Fultz said after his 24th career Southeast Series victory. "I can't thank the folks at AutoZone enough for their support with the Southeast Series and also the people who run the Kentucky Speedway because this place is super nice.

"I moved away from this area when they were building this track so it's nice to be able to come back with this series and race in front of the Busch Series teams and in front of the thousands of fans who I went to school and grew up with."

Fultz scored the victory by .300 seconds ahead of runner-up J.R. Norris and Erik Darnell in third. The top-five was completed by Kevin Prince in fourth and Allen Karnes in fifth.

Norris was pleased with his efforts as he continues to make up ground in the Southeast Series championship race.

"It looks like we're going to be chasing the 54 car again this year for the championship, but that's what makes me a better driver because I have to step it up," Norris said. "It was a good run for us, but I'm kind of upset I didn't win because I had such an awesome car. Unfortunately, Fultz just had a better car than we did and I couldn't make my way around him. I was running my guts out trying to pass him, but there wasn't a lot I could do about it.

"Fultz had a real good car like they do every time we race at Kentucky and we always know he's the man to beat here. We're going to beat him here eventually. When he has some bad luck I'm going to be there."

Another driver who was hoping that Fultz might have a little bad luck towards the end of the race was Darnell who ended up third.

"I'm a little disappointed," Darnell said. "The car was a little loose which made it hard throughout the race. I had a hard time passing when we got in traffic and the car was a lot better when I was out front. We'll be back at Kentucky for the ARCA race here in July so maybe we can get a win here then."

The Top-10 was completed by rookie Gary Helton, Ray Skillman, Dusty Williams, Daniel Mientka and Cecil Chunn.

Williams' eighth-place finish allows him to retain the lead in the Southeast Series point standings by seven points over Fultz with Norris, Jason Hogan and Justin Wakefield rounding out the top-five after five races.

The Southeast Series returns to action July 15 at the Music City Motorplex in Nashville, Tenn., where Brian Hoppe is the defending race winner.
