THE RACE: The Price Chopper 250 is the seventh of 19 races on the 1998 Slim Jim All Pro Series schedule. This race represents the seventh time that the Slim Jim All Pro Series will compete at the high banked 0.543 mile oval since the series' inception in 1991. The only year that the series did not compete at I-70 was 1993.

1997 REVIEW: Suwanee, Ga.'s Mike Garvey dominated the 250 lap race as he earned the Bud Pole Award and led 249 of the 250 circuits, yielding on one lap just after a restart to Jeff Fultz. Fultz was forced to settle for second while Mike Harmon, 1997 Rookie of the Year David Reutimann and eventual '97 Series Champion Hal Goodson completed the top five.

NOTES OF INTEREST · Previous event winners at I-70, in addition to Garvey, include Jody Ridley, Hal Goodson (twice) and Toby Porter. As of this writing Goodson is the only previous winner expected to participate.

· Garvey holds the 400 lap race record after winning the World Cup 400 on September 13, 1992 in three hours, two minutes and 24 seconds at an average speed of 65.78 mph.

· This event is the second of five events to be run in conjunction with the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The Slim Jim All Pro Series ran with the Truck Series at Homestead, Fla. earlier this year and will do the same at Nazareth, Pa., Louisville, Ky., and Memphis, Tenn. later this year.

STAT OF THE WEEK: The top six drivers in the series point standings are separated by 98 points after six events, and the drivers in the second through fifth spots are separated by just 16 tallies.
