Sheetz Limited Sportsman Division shines April 12 at South Boston

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. (April 8, 2003)--The spotlight will shine on the Sheetz Limited Sportsman division April 12 at Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway, as the Speedway hosts the Coors Light NASCAR All Star presented by WYYD. The Sheetz Limited Sportsman cars will compete for 120 laps, in addition to the 20-lap East Coast Flathead race and the 30-lap Winston Cup all-star shootout, featuring Michael Waltrip, Sterling Marlin, Jamie McMurray and Kenny Wallace.

This event will award double points to the Sheetz Limited Sportsman drivers. It is the division's longest and richest race ever, awarding $2,500 to win. The class has had three different winners this season in as many races. The 2002 Limited Sportsman champion Bill Moshenek and the 2001 Limited Sportsman champion Billy Myers have each emerged victorious, along with Richmond, Va., driver Chad Mason. The two men that tied for the lead in 2002 championship points, Moshenek and Jonathan Cash, find themselves 1-2 in points again thus far, this time with a six-point spread. Wayne Roach, who finished fourth in last year's points, is tied for second with Cash.

The East Coast Flatheads will also make their first visit to South Boston for 2003. These vintage cars offer an unforgettable throwback to the days of yesteryear.

Racing's stars of today, the Winston Cup drivers that will be appearing for the all-star shootout, will each compete in Sheetz Limited Sportsman division cars. Before they hit the track, they will sign autographs for fans from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Sheetz Limited Sportsman and East Coast Flathead drivers will also sign autographs on the track at 6 p.m.

The No. 40 Coors Light Dodge showcar will be on hand from noon to 7 p.m., courtesy of Lawrence Distributing and Puckett Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep of South Boston. WYYD 107.9 FM will broadcast live from Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Fans can stop by the showcar and the live remote for their chance to win a number of prizes, including some exclusive opportunities to meet the visiting Winston Cup stars.

The Speedway will also stage a fund-raiser for the Victory Junction Gang Camp, the camp founded by Winston Cup driver Kyle Petty and his wife Pattie, in honor of their late son Adam. When it opens in June 2004, the camp will benefit children age 7 to 15 with chronic or life-threatening illnesses.

In 2003, Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway celebrates 46 years of racing excitement and affordable family entertainment.
