SOUTH BOSTON, Va. (April 15, 2003)-- Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway hosted four NASCAR Winston Cup all stars last week, but it will be the regular South Boston all stars taking to the track April 19 for Domino's Pizza Night. The NASCAR Late Models will deliver 150 laps of racing excitement, with twin 50s for the Sheetz Limited Sportsman and a 30-lap Pure Stock race on the side.
The April 12 Coors Light NASCAR All Star presented by WYYD was a night of intense action, as the Sheetz Limited Sportsman division staged one of the season's most exciting events. Wayne Roach collected the $2,500 winner's purse after dueling hard with Jonathan Cash and Billy Myers for the victory. Roach also emerged with the division points lead, albeit a slim lead over Cash.
Before the Winston Cup all stars took to the track, Kenny Wallace predicted a great show. "We go out and race, and we run hard," he said.
"All the locals, they put a stopwatch on us, and they can tell that we're running hard. Every once in a while we get to racing too hard, and we wreck some of these cars. That's what we don't want to do. We don't want to wreck these boys' cars because these are their racecars, but we put some doughnut marks on them, that's for sure."
Eventually, Wallace found himself battling Michael Waltrip for the win aboard Bruce Anderson's No. 9 Chevrolet. Waltrip emerged victorious in the No. 38 Pontiac of Don Pollock. Jamie McMurray in the Bailey's Chevrolet of Jonathan Bailey closely followed Wallace and Waltrip to the line. Sterling Marlin was sidelined early after the engine expired in Tommy Peregoy's Chevrolet.
Grandstand gates April 19 open at 5 p.m., with qualifying scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The Racing for Kids Challenge returns at 6 p.m., and the green flag for Domino's Pizza Night will wave at 7 p.m. Adults pay $10, and youth age 10 to 15 pay $5. Children nine and under are free. The contemporary Christian music band "Refuge" will perform for fans at 6:15 p.m., courtesy of the United Methodist Church. Representatives from Help Eliminate Auto Theft (HEAT) will also be on hand with giveaways to a limited number of fans.
Fans in the Lynchburg area can visit B & C Sports Collectibles at the River Ridge Mall and purchase tickets to all Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway events. Likewise, fans in the Danville area can purchase South Boston tickets at the Piedmont Mall Customer Service Center.
In 2003, Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway celebrates 46 years of racing excitement and affordable family entertainment.
