Champions return for May 31 Armed Forces 150 at South Boston
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. (May 22, 2003)-- Like Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway's regular competitors, the drivers of the NASCAR Kodak Southeast Series are ready for some sunshine. The tour resumes action on May 31 with the Armed Forces 150 presented by Coors Light at Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway. South Boston's legendary Late Model class will also compete for 150 laps, while the Sheetz Limited Sportsman division will contribute twin 50s to the program.
The Kodak Southeast Series event scheduled for May 16 at the Myrtle Beach Speedway was rained out. The series has completed only one race this season, that being an event at the Greenville-Pickens Speedway in South Carolina. It was there that Steve Howard of Greer, S.C., won his first Kodak Southeast Series race. He is no doubt eager to back up that win on May 31at South Boston.
David Reutimann enters the Armed Forces 150 presented by Coors Light as the defending winner. That victory was the first Kodak Southeast Series (then Hills Bros All Pro Series) win for the Zephyrhills, Fla., driver of the Pennzoil Chevrolet. Since that initial triumph, Reutimann has occasionally competed in the NASCAR Busch Series, driving cars fielded by 1992 Busch Series champion Joe Nemechek. He missed the first Kodak Southeast Series race due to his Busch Series driving duties. Reutimann will return to his Kodak Southeast Series ride at South Boston, and in doing so, hopes to return to victory lane.
Both the 2000 and 2002 Kodak Southeast Series champions are set to return to South Boston for the Armed Forces 150 presented by Coors Light. The 2000 champion, Billy Bigley Jr., has returned to the Kodak Southeast Series this season. Defending series champion Jeff Fultz will attempt another championship run in his C&C Boiler Sales Chevrolet. A win at the legendary Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway is certainly a feather in any driver's cap, and could launch a successful championship run.
Grandstand gates for the May 31 Armed Forces 150 presented by Coors Light open at 4:30 p.m. Qualifying is at 5 p.m., and racing starts at 7 p.m. Adult general admission tickets are $15, and reserved seats are $25. Youth adults, age 10 to 15, pay $10, and children nine and under are free.
In 2003, Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway celebrates 46 years of racing excitement and affordable family entertainment.
