EVENT REVIEW: The Goody's Dash Series has not competed at this popular NASCAR facility since 1989. In fact the series has only competed here five times since the series became associated with NASCAR in 1975. Dean Combs, a five-time series champion, won the first series event run at this track in 1975. Other winners have included the late Rob Moroso ('85), Hut Stricklin ('86), Danny McLain ('87) and Robert Pressley, ('89). So much has changed on the series since the 1989 event like the name of the series which then was the Charlotte-Daytona Dash Series to the fact that today almost all cars run the V-6 engine compared to four-cylinder engines. Also changes have been made in the rules specifications to the cars. Today the cars are mostly Pontiac Sunfires, with the Mercury Cougar next in number followed by a few Fords, a Chevrolet and one Toyota. Consequently a new qualifying mark and a new race record will be established at this event.

NOTES OF INTEREST:

(1) Three drivers, Gary Moore, Mike Watts and Scott Weaver, who competed with the series back in the 80's are still competing with the series on a regular basis.

(2) Other drivers like Larry Caudill and Mickey York compete on an infrequent basis.

(3) the series had one female compete in the 1989 event, Shawna Robinson, and this year Angie Wilson will be the only female competing.

PARTICIPATING AWARDS SPONSORS: Anheuser-Busch, Gatorade, Goody's, Goody's Consistency Award, NAPA Oil Filters, NGK Spark Plugs, Pontiac Racing, Stef's Oil Pans, Tilton Engineering, Toyota, Wiseco Pistons and "76" Race Gasoline.
