JOHNSON SCORES FIRST CAREER WIN AT SOUTH BOSTON SPEEDWAY

SOUTH BOSTON, VA--..Justin Johnson has been waiting a long time for his big break. He finally got it in Saturday night's Sprint Night race here at South Boston Speedway.

The 18-year-old driver from Roxboro, N.C. inherited the lead when the Ford driven by race leader Jason Dickerson of Ruckersville, Va. refused to fire following the race's lone red flag period that ended on lap 92. From there, Johnson led the final 58 laps and held off Owen Miller of Emporia, Va. in a 53-lap green-flag run to score his first career NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series win in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car division.

"It's pretty awesome," Johnson said after taking the win in the 150-lap Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car race.

"I was just waiting for the race to be over."

Brandon Butler of Petersburg, Va. crossed the finish line third in a Chevrolet with track points leader Drew Herring of Benson, N.C. finishing fourth and Tony McGuire of Roanoke, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.

The race had its share of drama.

Early on, Dickerson, the pole winner, was the class of the field in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car race with Johnson and Miller lurking behind. But, Dickerson's night unraveled shortly after the race's fourth caution period came on lap 84.

After the field circled the track a few laps behind the pace car, NASCAR officials red-flagged the race on lap 91. When the field was put back under caution, Dickerson's car refused to fire. An attempt to push-start the car failed, leaving Dickerson to have to have his car pushed onto pit road by a wrecker.

That put Johnson in the lead where he stayed the rest of the way.

Meanwhile, behind the lead trio, a torrid three-car battle raged between Herring, McGuire and Peyton Sellers of Danville, Va. for the fourth spot, a battle that Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. joined in the closing laps of the race.

Following the race, Miller's night, his best of the season, came to a disappointing end when he was disqualified by NASCAR officials after his car failed a post-race technical inspection by track NASCAR officials.

That bumped Butler up to second place with Herring, McGuire and Ramsey rounding out the top five finishers. Sellers was credited with a sixth-place finish with Ryan Rhodes of Sanford, N.C., Terri Williams of Franklin, Va., Josh Oakley of Rougemont, N.C., and Scott Worley of Long Island, Va. rounding out the top ten finishers.

Johnson averaged 62.860 mph in the race that took 57 minutes and 37 seconds to complete.

SNOW WINS LIMITED SPORTSMAN RACE

Justin Snow of Danville started on the pole and led every lap enroute to winning the 50-lap race for the NASCAR Limited Sportsman division.

The win was Snow's fifth of the season.

Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va. finished second with defending division champion Jonathan Bailey of Keysville, Va. finishing third, Tommy Peregoy of Red Oak, Va. finishing fourth and Kenny Bowes of Danville, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.

Brian Cole of Roxboro, N.C., Eddie DeClue, Charles Barnes of Chase City, Va., Dwayne Marshall of Lynchburg, Va. and John Moore of Pelham, N.C. rounded out the top ten finishers.

The race was punctuated by three caution periods for mishaps with Snow edging Anderson by 1.342 seconds in a 23-lap green-flag run to the finish.

Snow averaged 44.467 mph in winning the race.

DOWDY WINS GRAND STOCK DIVISION RACE

Troy Dowdy of Lynchburg, Va. scored his first win of the season Saturday night, taking the top spot in the 30-lap Grand Stock division race.

Dowdy outran Brad Matthews of Stovall, N.C. in a four-lap sprint to the finish that followed the last of the race's three caution periods.

Keith Edwards of Pendleton, N.C. finished third.

With a trio of competitors, Tommy Chandler, Jack Milam and Jeremy Ratliff being disqualified by NASCAR officials following a post-race inspection, Junior Hancock of Danville, Va. was awarded fourth place and Ray Ellington of Madison Height, Va. was awarded fifth place.

FALK WINS INEX LEGENDS CARS RACE

C.E. Falk of Virginia Beach, Va. picked up his second win of the season at South Boston Speedway in the 25-lap race for the INEX Legends Cars Series that concluded the night's program.

Brothers Duncan Molesworth and Patrick Molesworth followed Falk across the finish line.

NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing action will return to South Boston Speedway next Saturday night, June 18 with the track's 3M Night event. A 150-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Cars will highlight the night's racing action which will also feature the Limited Sportsman, the Virginia Army National Guard Pure Stocks and the Southern Vintage Modifieds.

The night will be a special one for race fans who embrace warm memories of NASCAR racing at South Boston Speedway of years gone by. Track officials have sent out invitations to a number of South Boston Speedway's stars of yesteryear for a reunion. The reunion is being held as a prelude and in preparation for the track's 50th anniversary celebration which will be held in 2007.

Also, in recognition of next weekend being Father's Day Weekend, the speedway will have a special Dad's Night Out with dads getting in for a special $5 admission price.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. and the first race will get the green flag at 7 p.m.
