CAPRON, Va. (April 18) - For the second straight week, inclement weather has forced the cancellation of Southampton Motor Speedway's Friday night NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing program.

Hoping for a more positive forecast for the coming week, SMS will resume its 2003 schedule on Friday, April 25, with IHOP Night at the Races.

Pit gates open at 3 p.m. Front gates open and practice gets under way at 4:30. Time trials start at 6:40 and the first feature event goes green at 8.

The feature lineup for April 25 includes: RaceWorld.com Late Model Stock Cars (100 laps); Mike Duman Auto Sales Limited Late Models (50 laps); Rick's Rock Cafe Pure Stocks (25 laps); and, INEX Little Race Cars Legends (25 laps).

Tickets are $12 for adults and $4 for youths (6-12). Children under 6 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Active-duty military (with ID), senior citizens (65+) and teens (13-19) receive a $2 discount off the adult admission price.

At this point, the Scale Racing League Arena-Cup practice session, slated for Saturday, April 19, is still on. Practice rounds are scheduled to run from 12 noon `til 4 p.m. Five races for the series were recently added to SMS's `03 calendar - May 16, May 30, June 13, July 18 and Aug. 8.

In deference to NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Series activities at Richmond International Raceway, SMS will be closed on Friday, May 2.

Improvements and updates continue at the track's website - SouthamptonMotorSpeedway.com. New this week are photo galleries from the season's first three racing programs.

To purchase photos and other items featuring your favorite driver, contact track photographer Ray Hall of Bay Photography at (757) 488-5056 or via e-mail at ray@bayphotography.com.

In its fourth season under the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series banner, Southampton Motor Speedway is a 4/10-mile, paved tri-oval, similar in configuration to Richmond International Raceway. The track is located on U.S. Highway 58, one mile west of Capron and 17 miles east of I-95 (Emporia exit).

To learn more about SMS and its schedule of upcoming events, fans may call the Speedway office at (434) 658-RACE or visit the track's web site at www.SouthamptonMotorSpeedway.com.
