Todd Gilliland looks to continue winning streak this weekend

This weekend promises to be another action-packed weekend of racing in the NASCAR Hometracks program with the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West and NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour both in action.

Defending K&N Pro Series West champion Todd Gilliland has already started the season on a hot streak finishing second in the season opener to teammate Chris Eggleston and has won the next three races on the schedule to lead the standings in the West. 

This is the second straight year the third-generation driver has won three races in a row and he’ll try to become the first K&N Pro Series driver to win four in a row since Ben Rhodes accomplished the feat in 2014.

Gilliland has also won all four pole positions this season and hasn’t finished worse than second. Over his first two seasons, he’s already collected 10 wins, 10 poles, 16 top fives and 18 top 10s in just 19 starts in his young NASCAR career.

Spokane’s Nicole Behar, whose resume includes a second-place finish at California’s Irwindale Event Center in 2015 to record the highest race finish in series history by a woman, has returned to full-time K&N Pro Series West competition this season. This will be her first series visit to her home track.

Behar sits fourth in the current standings with four straight top-10 finishes to begin the season, equaling a career-best stretch she first accomplished from July to August in 2015.

For the modifieds, Langley Speedway will host the fourth race of the season for the oldest division in NASCAR. Ryan Preece won the last race held for the division, however he’ll miss this race to get married, so four-time champion of the former southern tour – George Brunnhoelzl III – will step in to pilot his No. 6 car.

Brunnhoelzl won the last time the NASCAR touring modifieds competed on the historic track in 2015 and has also started from the pole position a pair of times at the relatively flat .4-mile track located in Hampton, Virginia.

Rowan Pennick holds a one-point lead over Timmy Solomito in the championship standings after three races. Solomito who won the season-opening Icebreaker last month and has scored podium finishes in all three races this season in the tour.

NASCAR Next driver Spencer Davis will join Brunnhoelzl as a replacement driver in the No. 82 car for car owner Danny Watts. Ron Silk started the season in the car but has since parted ways with Watts.

Davis has 27 previous starts in a NASCAR touring modified with a pair of top-five finishes to highlight is resume in the unique race cars.
