Harvick, Spencer set to appear at Lanier National Speedway

Braselton, Ga. (September 12, 2003) - The Brickyard 400 champion and "Mr. Excitement" are headed to Lanier National Speedway.

In a return to the days when NASCAR Winston Cup drivers made frequent stops at one of the nation's top weekly short tracks, Kevin Harvick and Jimmy Spencer have agreed to participate in match races and an autograph session at Lanier National Speedway on Saturday night October 25. Two other Winston Cup drivers, to be named, will also participate.

Harvick was the hottest driver in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series in August. He won the prestigious Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis, then closed out the month with three consecutive second-place finishes in the No. 29 Goodwrench Chevrolet.

Spencer made headlines in August following an encounter with rival driver Kurt Busch moments after the Winston Cup race at Michigan. Spencer, who owns two career victories in NASCAR's premier series, is considered one of the most popular drivers in the sport. He pilots the No. 7 Sirius Satellite Dodge.

NASCAR Winston Cup drivers were a fixture at Lanier National Speedway in the late 80's and early 90's. Fans were treated to match races and received autographs from legendary figures such as the late Dale Earnhardt, Darrell Waltrip, Ken Schrader, Mark Martin, Michael Waltrip, and Harry Gant.

General Manager Stan Narrison feels bringing Winston Cup drivers back to the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series sanctioned track gives Lanier National Speedway valuable exposure while allowing race fans a chance to rub shoulders with some of the nation's top drivers.

"We're really excited to have Jimmy Spencer and Kevin Harvick coming to Lanier," said Narrison. "For years, it was rather common to have Winston Cup drivers at Lanier National Speedway. So, it's kind of nice to revive that tradition."

In addition to the Winston Cup match races and autograph session, a 100-lap Pro Truck race is scheduled. Many of the top truck drivers from the southeast are expected to compete including Curt Britt of Dahlonega who is the current points leader in the NASCAR Shortrack division Atlantic region.

The identity of the other two Winston Cup drivers and a complete schedule of events for the evening will be forthcoming in an upcoming release.

Lanier National Speedway is located just minutes northeast of Atlanta at exit 129 off Interstate 85. Call 770-967-8600 or visit www.lanierspeedway.com for more information.
