Jefferson Nets Top Five Finish at Evergreen

MONROE, WA (July 28, 2008) Jeff Jefferson had waited all season to return home and race at Evergreen Speedway located in Monroe, WA and his wait was worth it as he scored his second top five finish of the season in NASCAR Camping World Series action. Jefferson finished fourth in the series' 50th visit to the famed 5/8-mile paved oval.

The weekend brought good news and bad news to the MJ2 Racing team #42 Chevrolet. The first bit of good news came in the form of breaking the old track record in qualifying. Unfortunately, so did Jeff Barkshire and point leader Eric Holmes. Jefferson would start the race on the outside of row number one after qualifying second.

The second bit of good news was that Jefferson was able to race with the series front runners for the first time in several races and never fell out of the top five for the entire event.

The race was broken into two 75-lap segments. Over the first 75 laps, Jefferson ran second for the first 16 circuits then dropped back to third when eventually race winner Jeff Barkshire stormed to the front. Jefferson moved back into the second position on lap 25 and kept the leader in his sights.

Jefferson lost two spots on a lap 69 restart while running third when race leader Barkshire did not get up to speed jamming up the entire field behind him. Jefferson fell back to fifth and would finish the first segment in that position.

Jefferson started the second segment in fifth and waged a spirited battle with David Mayhew over the next twenty laps before making an outside pass on the RCR development driver. Jefferson would hang on to his loose race car over the final fifty laps to record his best finish since Phoenix back in April.

"I am real happy for Mike and Cindy Warn and the whole MJ2 team," Jefferson said. "We have struggled in the worst way all season and this finish does a lot to boost our confidence. We still have a lot of work to do but it always feels good to race at Evergreen and see a lot of familiar faces, friends, and family."

"Evergreen Speedway is a special place for me,' Jefferson continued. "It was great to be racing out front and I wish we had something for Jeff (Barkshire) but our car got real loose late in the race so I was just lucky to hang on."

Jeff Jefferson and his MJ2 Racing team head to Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah this weekend for round ten of the NASCAR Camping World Series schedule. The 3.03 mile road course plays host to the series for the second year in a row and will prove to be a pivotal race in the championship standings.
