Jefferson See's Top 10 Slip Away in Irwindale

NACHES, WA (August 17, 2008) Jeff Jefferson always wanted to race cars for a living and during his senior year at Washington State University he traded in his catcher's glove for driving gloves. He graduated with a business degree but should have studied philosophy as his 2008 season has been one for heavy contemplation. Jefferson finished 15th Saturday night at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (CA) in round eleven of the NASCAR Camping World Series.

Jefferson qualified his MJ2 Racing/Gran Prix Imports Chevrolet in the 15th position for the 200-lap race sponsored by Pipe Careers. The qualifying effort left Jefferson puzzled and troubled after practice challenges left the team guessing. The team put a setup under the car that was trusted.

As soon as the green flag dropped Jefferson had hoped to use the bottom line of the ultra-fast paved half-mile oval but quickly found that his Chevrolet was loose and he was along for the ride. Jefferson battled to stay on the lead lap but by the 50-lap mark he succumbed to the leaders.

The race was broken into two 100-lap segments and Jefferson hoped that the team could adjust the car and challenge during the final 100 laps. Unfortunately he was not able to get back on the lead lap and finished two laps down in the 16th position.

"We struggled all day and it is really disappointing for the effort this team continues to put forth at every race," Jefferson said. "We'll get it figured out and with only two races left in the season we just want to finish in the top ten."

Racing is a sport where you are always thinking and Jefferson and crew will have a lot to think about over the next month as they prepare for the final two races of the year. "The great thing about this team is we never stop working and applying ourselves to be better," Jefferson said. "We will take what we learned and move forward."

Despite the finish, Jefferson moves up one spot (11th) in the driver standings with two races left on the schedule, just 16-points out of the top ten. Eighth through 13th in the standings are separated by less than 100 points.

Jeff Jefferson and his MJ2 Racing team will have nearly a month off before heading to Altamont Motorsports Park for round twelve of the 2008 NASCAR Camping World Series schedule.
