Warn Slips to Tenth in the Standings After Irwindale
AURORA, OR (August 17, 2008) Jim Warn finished 17th Saturday night at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (CA) in NASCAR Camping World Series action. Warn battled a loose race car for 200-laps and finished right behind his teammate at perhaps the West's marquee racing facility.
Warn qualified a disappointing 23rd in the 29-car field. Warn would have to use patience if he hoped to move his MJ2 Racing Chevrolet to the front. Unlike Michael Phelps who was on a rail winning eight gold medals, Warn's Chevrolet looked like it was tied to a string being swung in a circle.
The Pipe Careers "200" was split into two 100-lap segments giving the teams an opportunity to make adjustments during a ten minute "halfway" break. The adjustments helped but as the evening wore on the track became slicker and slicker.
"It was interesting out there," Warn stated. "I tried all sorts of lines trying to get my car to stick. I found that I had to drive each end of the track different and was nearly in the grass a few times in turn one as I used the bottom line."
"My car was really a lot better during the second half of the race as the crew made tire pressure adjustments that helped. Toyota Speedway is such a great place to race but the track changes so much from practice to race time that you have to change with it. We are learning a lot and our notebook is getting bigger. Hopefully we can make the right changes when we come back here in January for the Showdown."
Racing results do not always measure the success of a team nor are they indicative of hard work and dedication each team puts in. "I am very proud of my MJ2 Racing Team," Warn said. "This whole team continues to work hard no matter what and they deserve better than we gave them tonight. "We will get this figured out and when we do we will have a lot to celebrate."
The finish drops Warn one position in the standings to tenth place where he leads his teammate Jeff Jefferson by 16-points. The 17th place finish breaks his streak of consecutive top ten finished but he finished better than he started for the ninth time this season.
Warn and his MJ2 Racing team will be back in action Saturday, September 13 at Altamont motorsports Park in Tracy, Calif. for round twelve of the 13-race schedule. For all the latest news and information regarding Jim Warn and MJ2 Racing, log onto www.mj2racing.com.
