Warn Scores Top Ten Finish in First Camping World Start

AURORA, ORE. (March 31, 2008) Jim Warn from Aurora, Ore. mounted a late race charge and survived the tight and tough third-mile paved oval of All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. Saturday night to finish eighth in his first career NASCAR Camping World Series start in the opening race of the 2008 campaign.

Weather hampered the teams much of Friday, eventually washing out practice. That left teams scrambling for their testing notebooks to determine what setup would work on the tricky banked oval. During the limited 45-minute practice on Saturday, Warn and his MJ2 Racing crew continued to tweak on the chassis and their hard work paid off with an 11th place qualifying effort.

Warn started the 150-lap Toyota NAPA Autocare "150" from inside the sixth row in the 25-car field never falling further than 14th in the running order. Throughout the race Warn had to quickly learn that racing in this series is as much about defense as it is offense. His Gran Prix Imports Chevrolet suffered a few battle scares in the inaugural outing but nothing that a hammer and some paint cannot fix.

During the middle portion of the race, Warn waged a spirited battle with long-time series favorite Jim Inglebright who gave the rookie high praise. "Jim drove a great race," Inglebright said. "He and I raced side-by-side for 30 laps and we never touched. I have to say I was impressed how he handled it out there during the race."

Warn had to survive several red flag periods for track cleanup and a green white checkered finish but managed to maintain his cool and pilot his ride to the place finish. By virtue of his finish, Warn leads the 2008 Sunoco Rookie-of-the-Year standings over Jamie Dick heading into Phoenix.

"I had so much fun," Warn said. "I feel we accomplished everything we set out to do for this event. We qualified well, we raced well, and we finished all the laps. I am thrilled with our finish and owe it to Chuck (Carruthers) and the crew for hitting the setup."

For his part, Chuck Carruthers was pleased with his rookie driver. "Jim did real well; he showed a lot of patience and poise," Carruthers said. "This is exactly the kind of start we needed and now we can breathe a little easier heading into Phoenix."

Being an owner can be a bit nerve racking, but add to it being the father of a driver and your emotions are pretty well spent after a race. The finish certainly will make charging the emotional batteries easier. "I am really proud of Jim and the whole team," Mike Warn said. "It is just a great day for our team."

Warn completed all 153 laps in the race which took 1 hour and 10 minutes to complete and leaves All American 8th in the NASCAR Camping World Series point standings and is atop the Sunoco ROTY standings heading into the Jimmy Johnson Foundation "150" at Phoenix International Raceway Thursday, April 10.
