Jim Warn Excited About Infineon Event

AURORA, OR. (June 16, 2009) Jim Warn from Aurora, Oregon and driver of the GPI Performance.com Chevrolet in the NASCAR Camping World Series-West has had the race at Infineon Raceway circled on his calendar since last season when a top ten run was snatched from his grasp late in the event. Warn enters this weekend's race optimistic about his chances in the star-studded field.

Warn is coming off his third top ten finish of the season and is excited to return to his racing roots. Warn started his driving career racing sports cars and racing at Infineon Raceway, one of America's most spectacular road racing venues, is what road racing is all about.

The picturesque 1.99-mile, eleven turn road course has seen 19 stand alone NCWS races since 1969 with 13 different race winners led by NASCAR legend Hershel McGriff (3 wins), who at 81 years young returns to the series this weekend.

"I would love to put my name in the records books next to a driver like Hershel," Warn said. "We really like our chances this weekend and feel we have a top five car. Last season we were running 8th with five laps to go and had a shot at the top five finish. We have a really good car for this race."

The 64-lap race will certainly demand strategy and stamina from the teams and drivers, but a good qualifying effort will be essential. "You can come from the back to the front on a road course, but that can deal a driver a set of circumstance you don't want," Warn said. "We need to qualify in the top ten, pit when we can go the distance, and put track position in our favor."

The race in Sonoma is the first of three road course events this season and Warn and his team shook down his car last week in preparation for the race. "We tried a lot of shock packages and worked with different spring set ups," Warn offered. "We know it gets hot at Infineon so we have a couple of different packages ready to put under the car depending on how slick the track gets."

Warn is currently in the tenth position in the point standings after six races just 67 points behind ninth place and 142 points out of the fifth position. "Our goal is a top five finish in the points this year and a good run at Infineon will go a long way."

The Bennett Lane Winery "200" presented by Supercuts at Infineon Raceway is round seven of the 13-race NASCAR Camping World Series-West schedule for 2009.
