Woodside Remembers First Winston West Career Win at Evergreen Speedway

June 25, 2001 (North Hollywood, Calif.) - Sean Woodside, driver of the #45 Team Walker/Ron's Rear Ends/NAPA Chevrolet in the NASCAR Winston West Series, remembers well his first Winston West career win at Evergreen Speedway.

It was 1997, a season filled with new beginnings...first full season in the Winston West Series, a new team, adjusting to a different car.

It didn't take too many races into season for the ace short track racer from Southern California to show he could compete against the veterans in the Winston West. By the time the series paid its annual visit to Evergreen Speedway mid-way through the season, Woodside was ripe for his first win.

Woodside was in the hunt for the win throughout that 200-lap event. The competition was heavy, but he worked his way into the lead several times before taking control of the field for the final time on lap 173.

Woodside went on to finish second in the championship standings that season as well as in 1998, and won the Winston West championship in 1999.

Following a one-year stint in the Featherlite Southwest Series, Woodside is again showing his muscle in the Winston West Series and is more than ready to tackle Evergreen Speedway this Saturday when the Winston West Series competes in the Coors Light 200 Presented by NAPA and Albertson's. With four top-five finishes to date this season, Woodside is ready to finish the job.

A win at Evergreen would be his first under the Team Walker Motorsports banner.

"We have finished in the top-five the past three races, which shows how far we have come this year as a new team," Woodside said. "Everyone is working hard to make that first win happen. The cars have been great, the pit stops have been fast, and the team is really working together. Maybe going to the place I had my first Winston West win is a good omen."

Woodside will compete head-to-head with last year's race winner, Brendan Gaughan, his replacement in his former championship ride, as well as other top contenders for the first-place trophy. Dan Obrist, who finished just behind Woodside for second-place in the 1997 event, finished third last season.

"We are coming to win," Woodside commented. "The plan is simply to keep it in the front and to be there at the end."
