Antron Brown Drops Tight Final-Round Race In NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals
Antron Brown, who drives the Aaron’s Dream Machine/Matco Tools Top Fuel dragster, lost a close final round race to defending world champion, Larry Dixon, here Sunday in the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway.
Seeking his third win of the season, Brown posted a solid 3.851-second pass at 306.19 miles per hour, but it was a tick slower than Dixon’s 3.836-second trip at 318.09 mph.

“You always want to win, but we went deep into the race which is important,” said the New Jersey native. “Interestingly enough, we may have won the race against Dixon, but I pulled the chutes early. I truly believe I had the car to beat today, but I didn’t get the job done.”
After collecting his 57th career final round, Brown moved from fifth to fourth in the NHRA Full Throttle points standings.
“We’re definitely heading where we need to go,” said Brown. “But, like the rest of the teams, we still have to keep refining things as the season moves along. The racing is so tight these days, you have to try and keep improving on the tune up. You can’t rest on your laurels or else you will be left behind in a big hurry.”
On the way to his confrontation with Dixon, Brown took out Bob Vandergriff, Chris Karamesines and his Don Schumacher Racing teammate, Tony Schumacher.
“We had to be on our game against Tony,” he offered. “Any time you face a seven-time world champion, you better bring the best you can offer. Fortunately, we did just that.”
Brown will now head for Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio next weekend for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. Last year, he lost to Dixon in the finals.
“If we get the opportunity to face him again in the finals up there, we will certainly try to turn the tables on him.”
