COMMERCE, Ga. (Saturday May 4) - Rodger Brogdon, driver of the CertainTeed Roofing Products Chevrolet S-10 Pro Stock Truck failed to qualify at the 21st Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Southern Nationals in Atlanta, Ga. But if the heroic effort that Brogdon and his CertainTeed team put in this weekend counts for anything, they are true winners here in Atlanta.

In the first session of qualifying Brogdon's line lock malfunctioned causing the brake switch to short out. The electrical short caused the front brakes on his truck to lock up sending him in to the left lane guardrail.

Brogdon was unhurt in the accident, and the damage to the truck was for the most part superficial. After inspecting the chassis to make sure that it was safe to drive, Brogdon and his team spent Friday night literally pasting and taping his truck back together.

"We have enough duck tape on this truck to choke a horse," said Brogdon. "We were here pretty late last night putting this truck back together. I was on a good pass before I wrecked. So, I really wanted to see what this truck could do.

"After looking at the computer I really thought we had a pretty good chance of getting in the show. So, we put it back together and gave it a shot.

"We didn't qualify, but on our last pass, in the heat of the day, our truck came back around to where we started.

"To me that is very encouraging going into Topeka. We know now that we have something to work with, and have as good a chance as anyone else to qualify there.

The next race for the Pro Stock Trucks will be the 13th Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Nationals, at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kan. May 24-27.
