TREADWELL, DENNIS LEAD QUALIFIERS IN THE FIRST DAY AT ATLANTA DRAGWAY

COMMERCE, Ga. -- In the opening day of qualifying at Atlanta Dragway's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Comp Eliminator racer Jenny Treadwell, Mt. Plymouth, Fla., set the pace in her category while in Super Stock, Shorter, Ala., resident Bob Dennis wheeled his '91 Calais to the No. 1 spot. The three-day race is the fifth of six on the NHRA Southeast division calendar.

John Livingston, Murfreesboro, Tenn., drove his '90 Camaro to the top spot in Stock Eliminator while Jim Harrington, Ft. Walton Beach., Fla., behind the wheel of his '99 Cutlass, was the No. 1 qualifier in Top Sportsman. In Top Dragster, Lauren Freer, Lewisville, N.C., leads the field.

Racing continues Saturday and Sunday at Atlanta Dragway. Gates open at 8 a.m. both days. Qualifying and time trials resume Saturday at 10 a.m. Racers in Top Dragster will qualify at 3:30 and 6:30 p.m.; Comp Eliminator is scheduled at 4 and 7 p.m.; Top Sportsman will have qualifying passes at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car racers will have two qualifying sessions, at 5 and 8 p.m. Eliminations will start at 9 a.m. Sunday and Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at 1 p.m.

            Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at
Atlanta Dragway are $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday.  A two-day ticket is $35
and a full-event pass is $45.  Children 12 and under are admitted free.
