COMMERCE, Ga. (Pre-race) - The DBP Enterprises Pro Stock Truck race team, with drivers Greg Stanfield and Bart Price, arrive in Atlanta for the running of the 21st Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Southern Nationals hot off their first win of the season at the Gatornationals.
After two runner-up finishes this season, Stanfield is savoring the taste of victory and is hungry for more.
"We have been working ever since we got back from Gainesville," said Stanfield. "We got a little taste of victory, now we are hungry for more.
"We have been doing some testing in the last couple weeks. We have spent the majority of our time working on Bart's truck. That truck has had us stumped. The two trucks are identical, so in theory that should be running about the same. That last couple of races Bart's truck has been down on power, and we needed to find out why.
"So we took it testing and made laps on it until we found the problem. We found an electrical gremlin, and fixed it. Now Bart's truck is running as fast as mine is, which is what we want. That way we can used data from both trucks to tune for Atlanta, and hopefully get both trucks qualified in the top half.
"In Atlanta last year the lanes where very unequal. Having unequal lanes is no fun. With only one good lane to race out of, it makes this a lane choice race. So, we have to be ready to make the best pass we can when we get in the good lane. We want to qualify both trucks in the top half of the field. Starting eliminations with lane choice and keeping it will be the key to winning this race.
"We have done what we need to do back here at the shop. This weekend we will have two trucks to collect run data on. Hopefully we can use that to our advantage."
Bart Price
Team owner / driver Bart Price talked about the two-truck team concept and
how it works for his team.
"Since Houston, we have been having problems with my truck," said Price. "My
truck has fallen way off in power, and we could not figure out why. Greg and
the guys took my truck to the track and did a lot of testing to try to find
the problem. The good news is that we found the problem, it has been fixed,
and now we are back to having two trucks that run about the same. That is
very encouraging as we head into Atlanta.
"Atlanta is a one lane racetrack. That scares some people, but not us. We have proven that we can run on junky tracks, but more than that, we once again have two good trucks to collect data from. That makes a difference.
"The one-truck teams will only have two shots at the good lane. With us having two trucks set up the same we then get four shots in the good lane. Conversely, we also have four shots to find out what we can make work in the bad lane. That gives us and the other two-truck teams out there, Panella and Coughlin's, an advantage. An advantage that we all what to use to win. Because that is what it is all about; winning.
"As the team owner, it is a win / win situation for me. As a driver, I want to win races, but as the team owner, it is also just as satisfying for me to see Greg win races. So, I win either way.
"I feel pretty good going into Atlanta. I think we will do well there. Greg is pretty hot right now, and I am confident that my truck is back where it should be. Atlanta should be a good race for Team DBP."
