Mopar®/J&J Racing Pro Stock Driver Allen Johnson Heads to Houston on a Hot Streak; Johnson ready to get back to work at O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals

Center Line, Mich. -- Team Mopar® NHRA Full Throttle Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson enjoyed a successful outing at the recent NHRA Gatornationals. The Mopar/J&J Racing Dodge Stratus R/T driver powered his way to a runner-up finish at Gainesville Raceway and to the second spot in the NHRA Pro Stock standings. That taste of success has left Johnson looking for a victory at the upcoming O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals. The race is scheduled for March 27--29 at Houston (Texas) Raceway Park.

"It's a good start, we just have to get better," remarked Johnson. "We have some Mopar HEMI® Pro Stock Blocks and HEMI cylinder heads in the shop that we are working on, trying to squeeze out just a little more power. Of course, I'm working my butt off on the practice tree and in the gym, training myself in order to get that extra hundredth [of a second] or so advantage off the starting line. We're not going to quit working. We're going to act like we still have a long ways to go, and hopefully get a lot better."

According to Johnson, the work ethic of the J&J team, combined with Mopar parts and power, has led to a successful start to his season. Johnson has qualified No. 3 at each of the first three events and also recorded a semifinals finish at the season-opening NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, Calif.

"It's been a lot of hard work, a lot of testing and a lot of good people on our team that haven't been laying back a bit," Johnson explained. "We are all determined, from the engine shop to the race track crew to the driver, to getting better and better."

Johnson has experienced much success at Houston in the recent past. He captured the No. 2 qualifying spot and a semifinals finish in 2008 and a runner-up finish in 2007. The Houston drag strip is one that plays to the strengths of his Mopar-powered Dodge Stratus R/T, according to Johnson.

"The track is very, very fast. We make loads of horsepower from our Mopar HEMI when we're down there," said Johnson. "The track can get a lot of sun and turn tricky, and that's usually when we really excel, at tracks that are tricky. It just seems like our car works better in that scenario."
