BAYTOWN, Texas (April 13, 2003) Nitro Funny Car driver Cruz Pedregon and the Advance Auto Parts Racing Team qualified in the top ten for the second time this season at the NHRA Spring Nationals held at Houston Raceway Park. While Friday's night session proved to be Cruz's best pass of the event, with an elapsed time of 4.856/317.19 mph, it also proved to be his best pass of the season. Sunday's final eliminations also allowed the Advance Auto Parts Team a first round victory over Ron Capps.

As track temperatures continued to increase on Sunday morning, Cruz Pedregon was called to the staging lanes to pair up with Capps for the first time since the NHRA Reading event of 2002. While Cruz left the starting line with a .051 reaction time to Ron's .086, the Advance Auto Parts nitro Funny Car made a solid pass with a 4.991 e.t. at a speed of 303.98 mph, claiming the win.

During second round, Cruz barely fell short to Whit Bazemore. Although Cruz took Whit on the light (.069 to .071), Whit managed to take the win with a 5.057 e.t./297.02 to Cruz's 5.148 e.t./279.85 mph.

Plans to stay in Houston and test on Monday were made by the team, before they head back to the Indianapolis shop. The Advance Auto Parts Team will take a breather over the Easter holiday and will continue to race in Bristol, TN the weekend after-April 25-27th.
