Enders wraps up homecoming weekend in Houston

HOUSTON -- She may not have raced four times Sunday at the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in her first attempt as a professional Pro Stock driver at her home track of Houston Raceway Park. But she did race in front of the hometown crowd, and that was a great start to the rookie's pro debut at home.

"The best part of the weekend was getting to race on Sunday in my home town," Enders said. "That was so great because it was the first time racing in Pro Stock in front of all of my friends and family. The fans were great here and I was amazed at how many people came by to meet the team."

Enders qualified in the No. 15 spot with a 6.793-second pass at 202.97 mph. She faced Jason Line, the No. 2 qualifier and fouled at the starting line.

"I knew I had to leave on Jason at the line because they had the power advantage this weekend," Enders said. "He qualified high and was consistently fast throughout qualifying. I tried too hard and got the red light.

"We are still working on the car and I think we get better every weekend. We saw some things in the data that need to change and that's what we'll work on in the next few days before we compete in Las Vegas."

The 21-year-old Houston resident will be racing at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend, April 15-17.

"We're going to send some parts back to the shop and get a few things worked out before qualifying," Enders said. "We didn't have the performance we were looking for this weekend, but it isn't because of a lack of effort. We're all working as hard as possible to reach our season goals. It's a lot of hard work, but it's exciting to be out here racing."
