(Baytown, TX), At the conclusion of qualifying at Houston Raceway Park this weekend the Steve Kent Racing Pro Stock team knew that even though they had missed qualifying for the Sunday show at the O'Reilly Springnationals, the weekend spent at their home track had yielded results that allowed them to smile, as they knew that once again they had moved closer to the rest of the field.
Three races into the 2009 season the team had continued the process of narrowing the margin of difference between them and the rest of the field. At Phoenix the team missed racing on Sunday by eight hundredths of a second. After Gainesville that margin had shrunk to 5 hundredths and once qualifying had concluded at Houston Raceway Park, the team found themselves a mere three hundredths of a second out of the show.
As driver Rodger Brogdon put it, "We know that our Cagnazzi power plant is making the horsepower we need, we've just got to get the car to work with all of the power we have available. In the final qualifying session we were 15th quickest but more importantly we went 208.88 mph at only a 6.642. If we had been afforded the opportunity to run all four qualifying sessions I honestly believe that we would be racing on Sunday. Tommy Utt and the rest of the crew are continuing to refine the chassis set-up, and we have some additional changes we're going to test on Monday. We're obviously going the right direction and Steve is excited with the progress his new team is showing in such a short time."
The next stop on the NHRA Full Throttle tour comes up quickly, as next weekend the circuit makes the fifth stop of the year in Las Vegas. The team will test some different combinations on Monday and then load up and head directly for Vegas. While the work week will be short and extremely busy, the team's optimism is high and already there is anticipation of what awaits their efforts once they hit the Strip at Las Vegas on Friday. For Brogdon and the rest of the Steve Kent Racing operation this trip to Vegas isn't going to be a roll of the dice, they'll be looking to cash in on the progress they've made to date.
