Louisiana Local Talent on Display at No Problem Raceway
BELLE ROSE, La. -- Mother Nature decided to cut Belle Rose, La., a break today where despite the weather report calling for thunder showers and high winds no problems where found at No Problem Raceway. Adam Hickey of Hammond, La., took advantage of opportunity and grabbed the No. 1 qualifying spot in Comp Eliminator. Local National Champion and last year's JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals winner Craig Bourgeois who hails from Metarie, La., was not far behind in the No. 2 spot running a time of 7.052 seconds.
Stock Eliminator also came down to a battle of La. residents where John Duzac, from Covington, La., piloted his '67 Camaro to the No. 2 spot. Thibodaux, La., native George Roussel Jr. took the top spot with a run of 12.833 seconds. Earl Folse, from Raceland, La., took the pole position in the Top Sportsman class with a run of 6.558 seconds at 214.93 mph. JEGS entry Mike Coughlin who helps make this great SPORTSnational event possible qualified in the No. 5 spot running into a few issues with a new setup but look for him come race day.
Top Dragster scored a hat trick of local La., talent. Michael Kile, of Westlake, La., scooped the No. 1 position hitting a top speed of 208.04 mph. Pete Vicari, from Crown Point, La., slipped into the No. 2 spot and rounding out the top three was Michael Kile who also calls Westlake, La., home. In the Super Stock category Bob Dennis, from Shorter, Ala., continued his success this season and took pole position.
Qualifying is also complete for the highly anticipated Mopar Hemi Shootout which will take place tomorrow. Last year's JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals winner Charlie Westcott Jr., of Parma, Mich., fell one step short of the top spot which belongs to Santa Paula, Calif., resident John Rains. Rains drove his hemi powered machine to an impressive time of 8.655 seconds. Last but certainly not least Eddie Glaze, from Houston, was two-thousandths of a second quicker at the light then his fellow Houston resident Mike McCullah, giving him pole in Sportsman Motorcycle.
Racing continues Saturday and Sunday at No Problem Raceway. Racing begins at 9 a.m. Tickets are $20. For more information, call (958) 369-3692 or visit www.noproblemraceway.com.
