Fields Set with Massey and Harker on Top

BELLE ROSE, La. - In the final rounds of qualifying for this weekend's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Cajun Challenge event, Fort Worth, Texas, resident Spencer Massey held on to the No. 1 qualifying position in Top Alcohol Dragster while Steve Harker of Gainesville, Ga., lead the field in the Top Alcohol Funny Car class.

Massey ran a fastest time of 5.367 seconds at 245.90 mph for the top spot, followed by Darvin Martinets of Lake Jackson, Texas, with a 5.379 second, 264.90 mph run.

Harker bettered his Friday performance with a 5.652 second pass at 253.18 mph while Channelview, Texas, racer Lee Callaway jumped to the No. 2 position at 5.795, 249.07 mph

Slate Cummings of nearby Hammond, La., held onto the top spot in Super Stock with a pass of 8.816 seconds in his '07 Cavalier while fellow Hammond resident Adam Hickey grabbed the No. 1 spot in Comp Eliminator with a run of 8.146 seconds. David Buckner of New Waverly, Texas, jumped to the top of Stock Eliminator in his '72 Duster with a run of 10.741 seconds.

In the divisions TCI Comp Cams Top Dragster class it was Joe Collier of Clyde, Texas, leading the pack with a 6.165 second lap at 221.13 and Earl Folse of Raceland, La., put his '68 Camaro on top in the Reher-Morrison Top Sportsman class at 6.445, 218.48 mph.

In the Sportsman Motorcycle class presented by Harley Davidson, it was Joshua Guitreau of Prairieville, La., taking top honors with a perfect 0.000 second reaction time.

Racing continues Sunday with eliminations scheduled for 9 a.m. with racers competing for over $200,000 in cash and contingency awards. Gates open at 8 a.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, children 10 and under are free with a paid adult.
