Angelle ties track record, holds top spot on Friday in Brainerd.

Rain wreaked havoc with the first day of qualifying for the Rugged Liner Nationals, with showers delaying both sessions. However, the inclement weather did little to impede the progress of Angelle Savoie and her Retail Fixture Suzuki, as she made the two quickest passes of the day in Pro Stock Motorcycle.

With Angelle returning to her familiar red-and-yellow Star Racing leathers and the team resplendent in their new Retail Fixture uniforms, the defending Pro Stock Motorcycle champions grabbed the No.1 position in the first qualifying session with a 7.265-second, 182.23 mph effort.

After rain delayed the evening time trial by two hours, Angelle came back to better her opening attempt, tying the Brainerd International Raceway record on her second run with a 7.262 second elapsed time and a top speed of 181.11 mph. Making this accomplishment even more impressive was the fact that Angelle made her second attempt in the less-preferred left lane, which gave several of her competitors trouble.

"I have talked strongly about this being a one-lane racetrack, but today we were able to run a 7.26 in each lane, so I guess that's not the case any more. Hopefully tomorrow and on race day we'll be just as successful in getting down both sides of the track, although we'll still be looking to get lane choice and keep it, with the ultimate goal being to get our Retail Fixture Suzuki in the winner's circle.

"This track seems to be better than I remembered it, with both lanes being pretty smooth. We hope the weather will be kinder to us over the next two days than it was today, so we can get this race in. But either way, I'm very excited to be here with the Retail Fixture Suzuki, at yet another race where the Star Racing team wasn't sure if we could keep on going."
