Brainerd, MN ---Cruz Pedregon and the Advance Auto Parts Racing Team will soon head to Brainerd, MN, to compete at the 21st Annual Rugged Liner NHRA Nationals, held August 15-18th at the Colonel's Brained International Raceway. As the event nears, owner/driver Cruz Pedregon and crew are getting geared up, ready to prove they have the winning combination.

"We've made progress at the last two races, making strides that will enhance our chances of making our way into Winner's Circle," stated Pedregon. "Our main goal for the weekend is to make strong qualifying passes with low e.t.'s, giving us more data and information needed to win rounds on Sunday. We are still working through a few bugs, but have every reason to believe that our car can make it down the track in the 4.80's (e.t.)"

The Colonel's Brainerd International Raceway also holds a "home track" advantage for the Advance Auto Parts Racing Team. Crew members from the Brainerd area include Gene Fasching and his two sons, Ted and Troy. Crew Chief Ted Fasching reflects upon the many years he and his family have raced at BIR, including a Top Fuel Dragster runner-up title in 1995 and a semi-final finish in 1999.

"We've been racing at Brainerd every since I can remember," commented (Ted) Fasching. "When my Dad raced, we used to be at the track every chance we could. We basically grew up at BIR. Not only do we look forward to racing at this track because it is home for us, but we are surrounded by friends and family that support us throughout the entire season."

Cruz Pedregon also has a few success stories at the Brainerd facility as well. Pedregon took the number one qualifying spot in 1992, 1993 and again in 1998. In 1992, Pedregon went on to take the national event title win and in 1993 took runner-up.

Qualifying sessions for the Rugged Liner NHRA Nationals will begin on Friday, August 16th continuing through Saturday August 17th. Final Elimination rounds will begin Sunday, August 18th at 11:00 am.
