National Hot Rod Association: It was a Goodyear kind of day at the Colonel's Truck Accessories NHRA Nationals at Brainerd, Minn. Racers using Goodyear tires won six events and made it to the finals in another.
Larry Dixon took the points lead in the Top Fuel class by winning the final round. Kenny Bernstein, who started the weekend with the points lead, was knocked out in the first round of eliminations. Ron Capps won the Funny Car final, giving car owner Don Prudhomme wins in two classes for the weekend.
Bruce Allen won the Pro Stock title. It was his first win in a national event since 1992.
Bruce Bowler won in Federal Mogul Dragster, collecting the first national win of his career. Bowler was the man to beat all weekend, as he posted the top qualifying time.
Frank Aragona got Goodyear the win in Competition Eliminator and Donald Schultz Jr. won in Super Comp.
Vern Moates nearly gave Goodyear another win, making it to the final round in Federal Mogul Funny Car before he got beat.
