Line's Home State Run Ends In Brainerd Second Round

Summit Racing driver Jason Line entered Sunday's final eliminations of the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, MN determined to win the one race on the Full Throttle Racing schedule that means the most to him due to its location in his home state of Minnesota. Starting from the fourth position, he got off to a good start in the first round, taking advantage of the cooler temperatures to cover the quarter-mile in 6.628-seconds with a top speed of 207.30 mph to edge veteran Kurt Johnson.

This set the stage for a second round encounter with rival Jeg Coughlin. Despite running in the less-preferred right-hand lane, Line posted his quickest elapsed time of the weekend at 6.626-seconds with a top speed of 207.43 mph. Unfortunately, it was not enough to overcome his opponent's 6.617-second pass, the quickest winning time of the second round.

"Today certainly wasn't the day this Summit Racing team was looking for," said Line. "After wrapping up qualifying with a fairly decent run, we felt pretty good about our chances for today, but today's cooler temperatures meant we had to deal with a third different set of atmospheric conditions, and we just never found the handle, and it cost us.

"On a positive note, we qualified fifth for the Countdown to One, and my brother Ben was the runner-up in Stock eliminator. I'll spend one more day here in Minnesota to attend our family picnic in Cromwell, where I'll get together people I haven't seen in quite some time. After that, we'll head back to North Carolina and get to work. After all, we have two weeks before the U.S. Nationals and the start of the playoffs, and have a lot to get done. We'll put today behind us and make sure we're back at full strength by Indy."
