Happy and excited is mood for Carrier Boyz Racing

BRISTOL, Tenn. (May 1, 2004) -- Happy and excited are two words that describe Cory McClenathan as qualifying ended for the Fourth annual O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway.

Happy because McClenathan qualified No. 5 after putting together several good qualifying passes in front of hometown crowd of his team owners Mark and Andy Carrier.

Excited because he will be vying for the Top Fuel title during tomorrow's eliminations.

"We tried some things today seeing how far we could go with the racecar. Obliviously, what we tried didn't work. Todd Smith (crew chief) will go back to yesterday's setup and I expect to go right down through there tomorrow and run a mid-50 (mid 4.50 seconds). We will definitely try to go some rounds during eliminations," said McClenathan.

Todd Smith, the Carrier Boyz Racing crew chief, echoed Cory Mac's thoughts, "Consistency will win this race tomorrow and not big numbers. If the sun comes out like it did today, it's going to be a tricky racetrack. The bottom line is that it will be a matter of going from A to B. For us we're going to calm this car down tomorrow and go back to something we know and be consistent."

Finally, Andy Carrier speaking for his entire family was, like McClenathan, happy and excited. Carrier said, "All-in-all it has been a great weekend for the Carrier family and for this entire Carrier Boyz Racing team. After putting ourselves firmly into the field on Friday, today we were able to push the envelope to see what the track would hold.

"Around our pit area, it's been like Christmas. Family, friends and fans have dropped by all during qualifying. We appreciate their support and look forward to putting on a good show for them tomorrow."

McClenathan will square off against the No. 12 qualifier, Brady Kalivoda in tomorrow's eliminations. Kalivoda qualified with a pass of 4.651 seconds at 302.82 mph, while McClenathan best pass of four was a run 4.561 seconds at 322.19 mph on Friday. Eliminations will get underway at noon (ET).
