Cruz Pedregon Qualifies Season-Best At Bristol Dragway
Bristol, Tenn., May 1, 2004 -- Former Funny Car champion Cruz Pedregon qualified the Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet Monte Carlo second, aftermaking his quickest run of the season during the Friday night qualifying session with an elapsed time of 4.815 seconds at 320.66 mph.
Pedregon will look to continue that dominance tomorrow when final eliminations begin at Bristol Dragway.
"The car has a lot of power right now," said Pedregon. "Since we took advantage of the Friday night session and qualified well, we were able to gamble a little bit today and we ended up a little too aggressive in the clutch during that last session. Now, we just need to go back to our normal set up and get it ready for tomorrow. I'm confident and feel good about our chances, and look to go rounds."
This is the 29th time in Pedregon's career to enter race day qualified in the second position. He has won seven races, earned five runner up finishes and advanced to seven semifinals when qualified 2nd.
Pedregon will face Jeff Arend in the first round of eliminations. This will be only the third time the two have met in competition.
Television coverage of final eliminations can be seen from 7:00 p.m. -- 10:00 p.m. (ET) on ESPN2 on May 2nd.
