HERBERT LOOKS TO GET BACK IN GROOVE
Bristol, Tenn. (July 4, 2007) Racing close to home always has its advantages. As Doug Herbert, driver of the Snap-on Tools Top Fuel dragster, gets pumped up for this weekends NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, Tenn., he will be racing not just for himself and his crew, but for hundreds of friends, employees and family.
Just a few short hours away from his home and business, Doug Herbert Performance Parts, in Lincolnton, N.C., Bristol Dragway has always been a favorite for Herbert. This race gives friends and family the opportunity to cheer for him and the Snap-on Tools team in person instead of through text messages or quick phone calls between rounds.
"Being able to have everyone out to the track is the best," said Herbert. "We know they are pulling for us at every race, whether it is by listening on the radio or waiting for an update from one of the team members. But having them here in person is special. These are the people we work with and play with every day when we aren't racing."
Herbert will also be participating in a golf tournament organized by Bristol Dragway to raise funds for Speedway Children's Charities. Having been a participant in the tournament for several years, he will be sponsoring the event in conjunction with Racebricks.
"Speedway Children's Charities does great work," said Herbert. "We're proud to be associated with them and their tournament. I'm not much of golfer, but we always have fun hitting the greens. Vic Harlee and I had the chance to practice a little earlier this year, so maybe our scorecard will be a little better by the end of the day."
Herbert and the Snap-on Tools team look to get back in the round winning groove after an early exit in last weekends eliminations. Now just 66 points out of the eighth position, Herbert and team know round wins this weekend are important.
"We want to win this weekend," said Herbert. "I won my first race at this track back in '92, and won every year through '97. It's time we do it again.
"We plan on having another consistent car throughout qualifying, and carrying it through four rounds on Sunday."
