Anderson qualifies No. 2 at Bristol

BRISTOL, Tenn. (April 29, 2006) -- Qualifying for the sixth annual NHRA O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals ended today with Greg Anderson in the No. 2 position. Anderson drove his KB Racing LLC/Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock Pontiac GTO to an elapsed time of 6.734 seconds.

Anderson just missed the top spot by seven thousandth of a second. Anderson's teammate Jason Line was No. 1 with a pass of 6.727 seconds. It is the 14th time that the pair have been one two on the final qualifying ladder since Line joined Anderson in 2003, and the third time this year.

Also, Anderson or Line have claimed 12 consecutive No. 1s dating back to the U.S. Nationals at Indy last year -- Anderson has eight of the 12, Line four.

"The guys did a great job on both cars this weekend," said Anderson following qualifying. "It put us on the opposite sides of the ladder and in an ideal world would meet in the final round.

"Now it comes down to execution. So far (this year), other people have been outrunning us on Sundays and that doesn't set right with us. You feel like you have to run perfect every time out, and to be honest we haven't been perfect every time out and that's why we haven't won more.

"There's no margin for error in this class. If you're going to slip up just a little bit, you're going to lose. That's the way it's gone [for us] the last couple three races, and we need to get back to perfection and win a race and get that confidence level back up.

"I can't think of a better place to do it than here (Bristol). This is where I got my first win back in 2001. It's a magic place for me and I love coming here. If you need a get-well weekend, I can't think of a better place to come to do it, so it's time for me to do it this weekend."

In the opening round of eliminations tomorrow, Anderson will face Dave Northrop, who finished No. 15 in the 16-car field. Northrop's best of four qualifying session was a pass of 6.763 seconds.
