MOTHER NATURE HALTS FRIDAY QUALIFYING AT THUNDER VALLEY
BRISTOL, Tenn. (April 29, 2005) -- Due to persistent rains in the Northeastern Tennessee area, NHRA officials were forced to postpone Friday's professional qualifying action at Bristol Dragway.
Tommy Johnson Jr., who drove Don Prudhomme's Skoal Racing Chevy Funny Car to the win at the season-opening Winternationals, enters the sixth race on the 2005 NHRA schedule in fifth position in the Funny Car standings. Johnson and his Mike Green-led race crew are scheduled to make qualifying attempts at 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. (ET) on Saturday afternoon at the Tennessee race track.
"I've never liked having only two qualifying sessions," Johnson said. "I don't think any driver likes only having just two runs to make it. We're down to just two shots, but I think we'll be fine. I think we'll go out and run well. There's not much you can do about it, we're all in the same boat."
