* Larry Dixon is sixth in the NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel point standings; he is 35 points behind fifth place and 159 points out of first place. Dixon won the AC Delco NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla. earlier this season. He was the No. 5 qualifier at St. Louis but lost to Joe Hartley in the first round of eliminations.

* When Dixon wins his next round of eliminations, he will have won 500 rounds in his professional career. He is seeking to become just the seventh driver in NHRA history to reach the 500-round-win plateau. The six who have already reached the 500-win mark are: John Force, 1,021; Warren Johnson, 854; Kenny Bernstein, 681; Bob Glidden, 597; Joe Amato, 527; and Kurt Johnson, 509.

* One year ago at Bristol Raceway, Dixon was the No. 10 qualifier; he defeated Doug Herbert, Troy Buff and Brandon Bernstein before losing to Tony Schumacher in the final round of eliminations. He won at Bristol in 2002. Team owner Alan Johnson has two wins at Bristol as a crew chief.

* Dixon won the NHRA Top Fuel championship in 2002 and '03. He is currently third on the NHRA's all-time Top Fuel winner's list with 44 victories. Joe Amato is in second place with 52 wins; Tony Schumacher tops the list with 58 wins. Dixon is tied with Jeg Coughlin for 10th on the NHRA's all-time professional victories list. He trails ninth-place Dave Schultz by two wins. Dixon was the 1995 NHRA Rookie of the Year.

Dixon prior to Bristol:

"I am excited to go to Bristol; I've won there and almost won there last year, but my new boss beat us with his old team. I really enjoy going to Bristol; even though Bruton Smith has given the place an extreme makeover, it's still a track from my childhood. I went there with my dad when I was a kid. Seeing the old film of all the legends running there is amazing. It's a big deal for me to race there because so much of the history of our sport happened there.

"The 500-round wins mark would be very cool. The people in our sport who have won 500 rounds make a pretty impressive group, and it's an honor to even be mentioned with them. But in the grand scheme of things, round 500 will be cool, but should we get round win No. 503 this weekend that would mean way more to me. That's something you really look at after you're done driving. We're approaching it, but we'll move beyond it this year. We have some bigger goals we want to accomplish this season."
