Team Jeg's No.1 in Thunder Valley
Good performance was at a premium in the first two rounds of qualifying for the Mac Tools Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, Tennessee Friday. With the threat of rain immanent, the pressure was on for Team Jeg's and the rest of the Pro Stock field to bring their best stuff early.
Troy Coughlin was first to the water box for Team Jeg's in Friday's first qualifying session. Troy started the weekend in fine fashion with a pass of 6.902 seconds at 200.26 mph in his Jeg's Mail Order Chevy Cavalier.
"It was good to get a solid pass right out of the trailer," said Troy. "There's a pretty strong chance of rain in the forecast tomorrow. We certainly don't like to set the field without four quailing runs, but if the weather makes a turn for the worse, it might be the only option. That makes getting off to a good start early even more critical."
Jeg followed Troy with a solid pass of his own, tearing down the quarter mile with a run of 6.922 seconds at 199.49 mph.
"We shook the tires pretty bad on the low end but we were still able to make a pretty solid run," commented Jeg. "Even though it wasn't the best pass that we could have made, we still got it down track. It gave us a pretty good place to start."
Jeg led the first wave of the Jeg's Mail Order assault in the second round of qualifying Friday. Cooler temperatures and better track conditions made for some quick times in the evening session of Pro Stock. Jeg posted a fine pass of 6.886 seconds at 199.61 mph.
"We needed to step up in that session and our team delivered," commented Jeg. That may have been our best opportunity to post a big number and Team Jeg's got it done."
Jeg is qualified in the sixth position after two qualifying sessions.
Troy Coughlin was out to make a statement in Friday's evening session. Troy rocketed down the Bristol Dragway posting a stellar run of 6.853 seconds at 200.74 mph propelling Troy to the No.1 qualifying position after two rounds of qualifying.
"As soon as I let out the clutch, my Jeg's Mail Order Chevy was on a mission," said Troy. "I can't say enough about our entire team. From the guys in the engine department to our crew making calls at track, it is always a total team effort and I am glad to see all of the hard work pay off."
Qualifying for the Mac Tools Thunder Valley Nationals resumes Saturday morning at Bristol Dragway.
