Park Ridge, Ill. (April 26): After his best outing of the 2001 season, last week in Gainesville, Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher is eager to get back to action at the Mac Tools Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Motor Speedway, April 27-29.
Schumacher spent two additional days testing in Gainesville and one day in Atlanta in preparation of the inaugural Bristol Tennessee national event.
"We were very encouraged by our performance last week and we didn't want to waste any time in getting more runs on the car," said Schumacher. "The guys have been working at an unbelievable pace. They want to see this car win a race as much as I do."
"We have had a chance to race here twice, but this is the first national event at this beautiful facility and there is nothing that we would like more to get our first win of the year right here."
Schumacher also spent time on Thursday doing recruiting work for the U.S. Army at a local school along with his show car and local battalion staff. "One of the best parts of this sponsorship is the school visits," commented Schumacher, "you get a chance to make an impact by talking about teamwork, racing, the Army and all the options they have available to them as they choose their career paths."
Schumacher's work will continue on Friday as the Army YES program for area students continues, with "The Sarge" as a key speaker for the event.
Qualifying for the Mac Tools Thunder Valley Nationals begins on Friday with two qualifying runs scheduled for 5:15 PM and 8:00 PM.
