JOHNSON JR. FINISHES FOURTH FRIDAY AT BRISTOL

BRISTOL, Tenn. (April 28, 2006) -- Tommy Johnson Jr. powered his Skoal RacingSM Funny Car to the fourth quickest pass on the opening day of qualifying for the sixth annual O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals on F! riday at Bristol Dragway with a 4.791-second elapsed time.

Johnson's Mike Green-tuned Monte Carlo lost traction on its opening pass as he slowed to a 6.533-second pass. On Friday's second qualifying effort, under the lights at Thunder Valley, Johnson used a tune-up from Green to blast the Skoal Racing flopper to a performance of 4.791 seconds at 323.97 mph to claim the fourth qualifying position with two sessions remaining before the 16-car Funny Car order is set.

"That was pretty good," Johnson said. "We struggled with the track conditions on the first run as did most teams. We couldn't be as aggressive as we had hoped for, but we went up there with what we thought would be a nice 4.70 run. We had a few problems right before the run, but the guys worked through it and Mike (Green) gave me 100-percent confidence that everything was ok. It was a nice smooth run. Now, we can work on our race day set-up and that's important."

Nitro qualifying continues with sessions scheduled for 1 and 3:30 p.m. (ET) on Saturday afternoon at Bristol Dragway.
