SHARP IS ON POINT AT SOUTH GEORGIA MOTORSPORTS PARK'S LUCAS OIL EVENT
CECIL, Ga. -- In the opening day of qualifying at South Georgia Motorsports Park's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Lee Sharp is the best qualifier in two classes. The Marysville, Tenn., racer drove his '07 Cobalt to the top spot in Comp Eliminator and wheeled his '05 Cavalier to the top of the Super Stock field.
In other qualifying classes, John Duzac, Covington, La., set the pace in Stock Eliminator in his '67 Camaro. Ben Donhoff, Melbourne, Fla., heads the Top Sportsman field behind the wheel of his '93 Daytona and Ramona, Calif., resident Chip Rumis is No. 1 in Top Dragster. Rumis is also qualified in the fifth spot in Top Sportsman.
Racing continues Saturday and Sunday at South Georgia Motorsports Park and the action will include 250 mph Top Alcohol Dragsters and Top Alcohol Funny Cars. Gates open at 8 a.m. both days. Final qualifying and time trials are slated to kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday. Top Dragster will qualify at 3:30 and 6:30 p.m., Comp Eliminator will qualify at 4 and 7 p.m., and Top Sportsman qualifying is at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will qualify at 5 and 8 p.m. Eliminations start Sunday morning at 9. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round of eliminations at 1 p.m.
Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at South Georgia Motorsports Park are $15 Saturday and $15 Sunday. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.
