RAIN WASHES OUT ALCOHOL QUALIFYING AT SOUTH GEORGIA MOTORSPORTS PARK
CECIL, Ga. -- Rain has put a damper on the evening qualifying at South Georgia Motorsports Park's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. Cars ran during the day but the rains came in for good before competitors in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, who were slated for two qualifying runs, could make a pass. They will make one qualifying pass tomorrow before heading in to eliminations.
In other qualifying, Lee Sharp, Marysville, Tenn., had been the top qualifier in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock and held on to the top spot in Comp Eliminator. In Super Stock, Shorter, Ala., resident Bob Dennis moved up from the No. 5 spot to the No. 1 position while Sharp slipped to No. 2.
John Duzac, Covington, La., remained the best qualifier in Stock Eliminator; Ben Donhoff, Melbourne, Fla., kept the No. 1 spot in Top Sportsman; and Chip Rumis, Ramona, Calif., continued to set the pace in Top Dragster. Rumis is also the No. 5 qualifier in Top Sportsman.
Racing will continue Sunday morning at 9. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will have one qualifying pass before going in to eliminations.
Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at South Georgia Motorsports Park are $15. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.
South Georgia Motorsports Park is located 12 miles north of Valdosta, Ga. Take I-75 (from north or south) to Old Coffee Road (Exit 32). Take Old Coffee Road east to Highway 41 and go north to the track. For more information call the track, (229) 896-7000, or visit www.racesgmp.com.
