Antron Brown on Charlotte 2
"I'm excited to get back to zMax Dragway. Our Matco Tools dragster has run really well there at Charlotte since the first race two years ago. We've been to the final round twice, so we're hoping the third time's the charm for our Matco Tools team here at DSR. This is a big race for us to make up some ground in the Countdown (to 1) points. It's now or never."
Brian Corradi (crew chief) on Charlotte 2
"This is an important race for us to get back in the thick of the points race. We're making a few changes to the car coming into the race and we really think it will help our performance. We're happy with how the car ran at Indy, now we need to build on that and get a little bit quicker."

Two weeks ago at the prestigious U.S. Nationals, Brown qualified his Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster fifth at 3.808-seconds. It was his quickest career pass at the historic Indianapolis-area track. It was Brown's quickest pass since the Norwalk, Ohio race in late June. On race day, the 24-time winner fell in a close race to young gun Shawn Langdon, 3.853 to 3.851. It was his second straight opening-round loss at the U.S. Nationals.
This March at zMax Dragway at Concord, Brown qualified his Matco-backed rail in the No. 3 position at 3.819 seconds at 312.93 mph. On race day, he advanced to the final round of the inaugural Four-Wide Nationals where he posted a runner-up finish to DSR teammate Cory McClenathan and the FRAM Top Fuel team, the defending event champions of the O'Reilly Carolinas Nationals. In three tries at the Bruton Smith-owned track, Brown has an average qualifying position of 2.67.
Last Sept. at zMax Dragway, Brown qualified his Matco Tools car second at 3.847 seconds at 317.87 mph. His speed was top speed of the event. On race day, the Matco Tools car overpowered the track zMax Dragway track in the opening race of the Countdown to 1 and fell to upstart racer Terry McMillen, 5.223 to 6.849. It was just Brown's second first-round loss of the 2009 NHRA season.
Brown, who won a category-best six races last season, enters the 19th race on the 2010 NHRA schedule ranked seventh in the Countdown to 1 standings. He trails two-time champion Larry Dixon by 147 points. Brown has six final-round appearances this season (Gainesville, Charlotte 1, Houston, Englishtown, Norwalk and Seattle) and five No. 1 qualifiers (Gainesville, Las Vegas 1, Topeka, Bristol and Denver). Last year, Brown had 10 finals and seven poles. His average qualifying position in 18 races this year is 4.72.
