PHOENIX (Feb. 23) – The WSM Auctioneers/Head Racing Toyota Camry Funny Car team driven by Chad Head had a very close call in the first round of eliminations at the CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals when he was racing side-by-side with opponent, Tim Wilkerson at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park

Head was marching to the finish line with victory near, when suddenly his engine dropped a cylinder turning his approach in the right lane quickly to the left near the centerline. He wisely lifted off the throttle saving his car from hitting a cone, walking a tightrope, as such, down the centerline, but unfortunately gave the round win to an ill-running Wilkerson.
“I never had a car move that quick and I’m just glad to catch it in time bringing it back without any damage,” said a relieved Head. “It was going down the track just fine and didn’t see Wilkerson when all of sudden I had my hands full.”
Head reacted first (.106 - .112) at the start of his opening round race and was holding his own up until he dropped a cylinder past the midway point giving the win to Wilkerson’s likewise struggling time of 4.263 seconds, 266.95 mph to Head’s time of 4.401 seconds, 211.46 mph.
“We qualified our WSM Auctioneers/Head Racing Toyota in the No. 10 position and knew we were capable of running with Wilkerson,” said Head. “The sudden loss of power and the quick movement to the left; it was all I could do to hold on. We had the round in our sight and couldn’t get there quick enough.”
At the NHRA weekend, Head Racing aligned with WSM Auctioneers of Phoenix and it showcased their abilities to attract sponsorship and produce relationships with customers and fans with their one-race partnership.
“It just shows we can acquire a sponsor and provide a successful environment for any company with Head Racing,” said driver, Head. “That’s something we’re striving for this year is finding sponsors for all the races. We have a lot to offer a potential sponsor and looking forward to adding to their success and building associations with companies for sponsorship.”
The next NHRA National event will be in two weeks at the Auto-Plus Raceway for the running of the Amalie Oil Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida on March 14 – 16.
