Angelle powers to Columbus top spot on Friday.

Angelle and the CVEC Suzuki Racing Team found themselves in a familiar position following the completion of the first day of qualifying for the Pontiac Excitement Nationals. After opening with a fifth-best 7.289-second run in the afternoon session, the Star Racing entry reclaimed the top position on their second attempt, covering the Columbus quarter-mile in 7.215-seconds with a top speed of 183.69 mph. This marks the fourth consecutive race where the CVEC Suzuki will enter Saturday's final sessions in the No. 1 position.

"In our first run, we slipped the clutch a little, and I also short-shifted, which hurt us. However, we came back tonight under much better conditions, and had a good run. My CVEC Suzuki left the starting line much better, I shifted on time and ran much straighter.

"But today was truly a team effort. George Bryce and the Star Racing team have always been awesome, giving me a really fast CVEC Suzuki at every race, and lately I have been driving better.

"It goes back to the first two races of the season, where I took complete responsibility for our not winning. I've been working to do a better job, and George has been coaching me, helping me focus. In those first few races, I wasn't shifting right, and didn't have great reaction times. After that, we sat down and talked about it, going back to the basics, doing the little things we might have taken for granted, such as focusing on the tree to cut a great light.

"We're now working together as a team, and when we do that, we really click and have a lot of fun. If it's cooler and drier tomorrow, you should see some runs in the teens, along with a new track record."
